The legend tells us about King James II El Just when he saw those lands, which had been called d’Alfándec until then, told the abbot of the Cistercian monastery of Santes Creus “the most worthy valley” referring to the construction of a new monastery for the Cistercian order. And since then the whole history of this place is shaped under the influence of the Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de la Valldigna.

How to arrive
N-332 to Tavernes de la Valldigna. We go through Tavernes and continue by the CV-50 until the roundabout of Benifairó-Simat by taking the CV-600 to get to Simat. We can also take the AP-7 and exit to Xeresa.

The festivals are celebrated from 4th to 7th August. Recently created, however, on 15th March el Dia de la Valldigna takes place, where the foundation of the monastery is remembered.

It is currently one of the most important monuments in the whole country, mentioned even in l’Estatut d’Autonomia Valencià (the Valencian Statute of Autonomy).

But Simat contains other unique claims throughout our territory such as la Mesquita de la Xara, which was used by Christians as a hermitage in honour of Santa Anna. Travelers also have multiple paths and natural places to complete their visit to the town.
