El MAGA is located in the monumental ensemble of l’Hospital de Sant Marc
Our region has one of the most important Palaeolithic sites in the Mediterranean; it is la Cova del Parpalló, where its mobile art plates even give a name to an artistic style of the Palaeolithic. With the premise of making this entire heritage worthwhile, el Museu Arqueològic de gandia (the Archaeological Museum of Gandia) was born, MAGa. The museum is located in the monumental complex of l’Hospital de Sant Marc, located in the south-east corner of the medieval walled site of Gandia, in the left bank of the River Serpis.
MAGa’s permanent exhibition moves around the prehistory of the area, from the first inhabitants of the Paleolithic to the Age of Metals, as a preamble to urban hierarchical societies of the protohistoric period, the so-called “Sala d’Homes i Sala de dones de l’antic hospital. For the successive cultures and for monographic exhibitions the space of the old church has been allocated.
The design of the exhibition system, equipped with interactive modules and computer information servers, will allow the incorporation of new discoveries and the results of new searches that can update and enrich the museum’s contents.
