A morabit was the residence of a hermit.
Although it was popularly believed that the function of this construction responded to this, in the last investigations it seems that it actually would be a transition refrigerator, to make a point in between the transport of ice.
Located in Marxuquera, adaptation works have been carried out to adapt the site in recent times. You can visit it outside and complete a route between orange tree fields and nature.
It is a cylindrical building covered with a masonry vault of about 7 meters of diameter and a total height of 6 meters, with a small lantern. It is an unusual construction, whose date is uncertain, although according to the materials and the type of construction, it could be from the 17th century. Ressembles the Cucos in regards to the type of plant, which are rudimentary homes used temporarily.
It was surrounded by a second enclosure in the form of crown of walls less thick and in the middle of the central body. This space was covered coinciding with the base of the vault, since hollows and nozzles in which the beams of the cover had to be supported. Access to this space is through a reduced ogival vault door.
The Morabit is made of large rock cuttings, stone cut for the vault, and brick in the doors and windows. At a distance of 100 meters there was a building of similar characteristics, although smaller in size, and with a single plant. It has now disappeared.
