Located within the municipal district of Alfauir, el Castell de Palma consists of two rectangular fortified enclosures.
The exterior enclosure occupies an area of 1438 m2 and the wall is made of rammed earth. The various fragments documented have different thicknesses, ranging from 0.60 to 1.25 metres. In the northern wall, the tapial module is quite homogeneous, with a distance between lines of 0.90 m. No structure is detected inside.
The upper enclosure is located in the northeast corner of the barn and covers an area of 592 m2. In the northern part, the canvas is reinforced by two towers: one with a circular floor plan, made with masonry, in a poor state of conservation, and the other built using the rammed earth technique. The only access inside this enclosure is inside the rectangular tower. Between the towers there are vestiges of a rectangular cistern (4×8,50m.) and built using rammed earth technique.
The pact between the governor of el Castell de Bairén and Jaume I in 1239 led to the surrender of the nearby castles. Among them, el Castell de Palma, that would become part of the royal ownership, as well as the farmsteads of Palma, Ador and Navessa.
El Castell de Palma would be used as a guarantee for real debts, and its property would suffer numerous changes. The vegetation that covers the mountain where it is located changes according to the orientation. On the sunny spot, partially covered with crops, the vegetation is dense and low shrubby. The crops on this slope are olive, almond and carob trees. In the shade the vegetation is more varied, although a dense pine forest predominates.
